The Motivation

Neil is a digital marketing director who noticed that he was starting to lose his hair in his late 20s. This revelation had a devastating impact on him and triggered a period of depression. Motivated to recover, he investigated solutions to restore his hairline and confidence. After researching potential hair transplant surgeons and meeting with Dr Mark Tam, he knew he had found the specialist to help.

Despite being anxious about what lay ahead on the day of the surgery, his trust in Dr Tam soon put him at ease, and he admits to falling asleep during the hair transplant procedure.

The Process

A vital part of the process for Dr Tam is the Treatment Area Mapping and Measurements (TAM+M), performed at the initial consultation and again on the day of treatment to ensure accuracy. Using this data together with a density check, Dr Tam can calculate the exact quantity of hair follicles and grafts required for the procedure.

Similarly, it is critically important for the hair surgeon to understand how those grafts will be evenly distributed or selectively placed more densely in some areas to achieve a successful, natural, and visually pleasing result. By measuring the total treatment area, Dr Tam can subdivide it into smaller segments to measure the exact placement of the grafts more precisely.

In Neil’s case, measurements were taken from the left, right, and centre of his hairline to calculate the surface area in each segment alongside the area percentage. Dr Tam then distributes the grafts according to this percentage. It is interesting to note the differences in hair loss across the segments, with Neil’s hairline showing more loss on the right side (44.9%) compared to the left (38.9%) and the middle (17.1%). This level of detail and precise mapping resulted in 781 grafts to the right, 659 to the left, and 300 in the central area of the hairline: a total of 1740 grafts, ensuring an even result across the whole area of hairline restoration.

The Result

Neil’s hair is beautifully restored. A year after the hair transplant procedure, he feels confident and happy; Neil even tells Dr Tam that he feels like a new version of himself. He is in control of his hair, understands the science behind hair and hair loss, and knows how to look after his newly restored hairline. Neil also knows that he can return to see Dr Tam should he need follow-up surgery in future, thanks to the preservation of his donor area.

Start Your Assessment Today

In order to save patients time and unnecessary costs, Dr Tam requires a pre-consultation screening to assess your suitability for surgery based on supplied photographs.

This form of assessment will only serve to give you an idea of whether you are likely to be suitable for a Hair Transplant, as well as providing you with a rough price estimate for the area you wish to have treated.

This assessment is complimentary but does not replace the need for a full consultation.

Once you have submitted your details along with the 3 required photos Dr Mark Tam will assess your suitability and you will receive a full report via email.

Recommended image types for uploading include JPG/JPEG and PNG.
